We had just worked the Escape from Ft DeSoto Triathlon. The Race Director took us all out to lunch afterwards. This was the place. Damn, what a treat! Loved the fish house atmosphere! Started with a flavorful spicy Bloody Mary & an Ice Cold Beer chaser! I tried the fish spread and deelish! The oysters were off the hook and, OMG, the lobster bisque was as good as any I have tasted over the last six years on the Pinellas Peninsula! I decided to go with the Shrimp Po' Boy and whoa! I was raised in N'awlins. This Po' Boy was righteous! The Shrimp was lightly grilled and had just enough "Bayou " sauce to set you free! Yummo! We usually do at least four Triathlons, a few mock Tris, and a couple of Duathlons out at Ft DeSoto. This is the perfect after-race spot!

The two star rating is appropriate, "Meh, I've experienced better". I've been there twice now. The first time the service was slow, the food mediocre at best. What I am writing about today, is my lunch visit. After looking forward to having some grouper all week, I went to Billy's, surprise, they were closed, new summer hours. Being hungry we decided on the Island Grill, across the parking lot from Billy's. It took about 5 minutes from seating ourselves, for someone to come over and take our order. The waitress was friendly. We ordered a salad, and a grouper sandwich, lightly blackened. When the sandwich came out, I began to take a bite, and immediately smelled ammonia, a tell tale sign the fish was bad. After turning the sandwich around and biting into the other side, it was definitely bad fish. I called the server over and they took it back, no problem. The new sandwich arrived, heavily blackened, hot and good. The bun was too large, and tasted either stale or close to it. My telepathy was not working well, which could explain why the waitress never came over to see if I needed an ice tea refill. I do not see how this restaurant gets high ratings, after two visits, and two negative experiences, the consistency is not there. Hopefully I will not get diarrhea from taking two bites of bad grouper. A tip for all the cooks out there, SMELL the fish prior to cooking it, if it smells like AMMONIA, it is bad.

Wow. This was the best accidental find of our entire ten days in Florida. Food, service, view, vibe... Two for one wine, fresh perfectly cooked grouper, fresh al dente veggies, best beans and rice.... Etc!! Highly recommended.

This honestly is the best breakfast I've had in quite some time. The Island potatoes are banging, and my veggie Benedict was spot on. My husband had the hash and said it was perfectly done, as were his eggs. Yummy! We'll be here again!!!

I'm not sure why I keep coming here. Ah yes because it's 2 mins from my house and I don't feel like driving into st. Pete. The foods here disappoint me every time. It's either bad or ok. It's just never good. The service tonight was super slow considering the amount of people that were there. My shrimp scampi was just ok. I've never much much better. I guess over all it's just ok.

My boyfriend and I came to get oysters. They were good but a little small. Maybe they're not in season? We got a dozen raw, half a dozen steamed and half a dozen fried. I liked the raw oysters the most. I came during happy hour so I got oysters for 0.75cents per oyster. Price has gone up but still a decent bargain. We also got chicken wings and got it spicy but it was barely spicy. It was still good chicken wings though. Our server was really nice. I probably will come back if I ever really crave oysters.

This review is for the oysters, big and sweet. I had them A la Moscow: a shot of vodka, cocktail sauce, small dolop of sour cream, and caviar. Yum!

Came here with the family after reading Yelp reviews as we were looking for seafood after De Soto park Had the mussels fra diablo - the sauce was fiery with fresh spinach and mushroom , the mussels were plump and delicious We had the Mahi grilled as well as steamed clams and grouper All was delicious ! Chris our server was on time with his service This place has an outside area perfect to catch a sunset

The fish was frozen. Tacos left under heat lamp for so long that all the fresh toppings were hot. We were the only ones in the restaurant and service was slow. Slow to refill drinks continued to forget items. Will never eat there again

Out of all the restaurants we visited on Saint Pete's Beach this was perhaps my least memorable. I'm not sure why but maybe it's because it's located in an odd location (upstairs in some strip mall) or maybe it's because our server seemed like it was her first day on her job. She tried to be nice but her people skills weren't very good. The place is divided into a two sections; a lively bar section and a more relaxed restaurant section. There's nothing fancy about it. And that's OK. It seemed like a lot of locals were enjoying themselves on the night we visited. It's located slightly off the main strip on the way to Fort De Soto Park.

This place is awesome. The food is fresh. Service is decent. But I came for the food and I'm very happy. The daily specials are the way to go.

Adored this restaurant! Prices were really good, fresh seafood and the portions were great too! We originally went there for the $1 oyster HH but ended up just eating dinner there. We were able to bring our furry friend with us to the patio and our waiter brought him water while we ate. Will return next time we are in the area!!

Gluten free paradise by the water! If you are looking for great food with a great view, look no further. Lots of gluten free options, from raw oysters to tuna to GF pasta. I trod the shrimp scampi GF pasta and it was fabulous!! The tables on the deck have great views of the water.

50 cent oyster day was wonderful! A small place, meaning every conversation ends up noisy. We tried oysters, wings and shrimp - all yummy. All ended up full and happy.

Delicious scampi with garlic bread - soft and not over cooked. Fresh veggies and huge shrimp with topping of fresh Parmesan. Jose very knowledgeable about menu and helped us select a delicious dinner. Kids meals had choice of veggie or fruit - nice portions.

Almost drove right pass this place since the the signage was not obvious. They oysters were excellent and a great value. Our main entrees all arrived quickly and piping hot. We had a salmon special that night, hamburger, and the fish tacos. We were all very happy with our dishes. If you get dessert, order what is made in house.

Excellent food, excellent wait staff, great menu with tons of options, and an excellent drink menu. Would highly recommend. The oysters are fantastic, straight out of the ocean. The prices are very good considering the high quality of food. Place gets very busy during peak hours so get there to grab your table!

Best oyster deals going! Happy hour daily 4p- 6p with 50 cent oysters. Island grouper po' boy awesome. Cold beer with friendly service. Nothing fancy just good food at a reasonable price with a beautiful view.

50 cent oysters during happy hour and some are so big they're two bites.. The Calamari had the marinara you want plus a great balsamic reduction and Parmesan cheese kicker. The chopped salad is off the hook with bacon, blue cheese, avacado, eggs and more. Our server Chris S. was totally cool, very with it and I might just have to send him a post card in a few months since we're basically buds now

Excellent oysters and shrimp. First timers: order the sampler--you'll get 6 oysters, 6 shrimp and smoked fish. The Bloody Mary here is below average-order a Rum Runner instead. If you must have a Bloody, do a Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter! Full review at outforbloodies.com .

Delicious, fresh, juicy oysters even during non-happy hour time you couldn't go wrong. The place is filled with friendly people who just want some tasty food and good ambience. Everything on the menu and on the tables looked good - but I was happy to just have oysters. There is a casual sports bar side and a restaurant side as well as a patio with some good views.

Oysters were amazing! And the food was top notch. Our server Steve was nothing but accommodating and pleasant. He comped us with free dessert thinking we waited too long for our food but we honestly waited for 20 minutes. Great atmosphere and 50 cent oysters are amazing!!! Definitely recommend this place.

This is an okay restaurant. There was nothing about it that was bad, but there was also nothing about it that was memorable, other than the dolphins swimming in the nearby cove and tossing a fish back and forth - that was cool. The Island Grille is a fine place to grab lunch if you're spending the day down at Fort Desoto park, or for a couple of Caronas after a long day getting sunburned. My girlfriend and I stopped here with a groupon - its a bit out of the way if you live anywhere except south St Pete, and even then its still a hike. But, we were heading down into Sarasota from N. St. Pete, so we stopped here kind of sort of on the way. We both got the cajun mahi sandwiches, but she got a wrap and I got a bun. First, her wrap was $1 because it was a wrap. I don't get that. How is less bread more expensive? Maybe wraps are somehow more expensive then a bun. She enjoyed hers much more than I enjoyed mine, so maybe it was better as a wrap. But I didn't think mine had much taste. For a cajun sandwich, I expected more flavor. Ambiance-wise, it looks like a marina restaurant without the marina. Even sitting outside on their too-small balcony area, you only get a small view of the water, which is a good 30-50 feet away (I'm bad with distances, so don't hold me to that), and the water is blocked by a chain link fence like you'd see around a construction site, and isn't that beautiful of a view. However, like I said, we got dolphins on this day, so we still enjoyed it. Service was fine. No mistakes, drinks were kept full, order came out quickly. I guess the point is that there is nothing about Island Grille that would make you go back. Its okay, and while I wouldn't object if I was with someone who wanted to eat there, there's also nothing to make me feel like I should make a return trip unless I was at Ft. Desoto Park.

Good food. Great Service. Good prices. Great place to grab a great bite at a local "joint." Not too fancy. At the end of a busy day, it's a great place to unwind with friends and a drink or 2. Ask for Rob as your server. He's great!

I ordered Ahi Tuna salad and grouper banana rum which was their weekly special dish. Everything was excellent. Great place for an easy night, do not come here on your 1st date night though because it's too noisy lol

Went for oyster happy hour and left full and happy. Great views and cold beers kept us busy until the special started. Ordered the parmesan horseradish oysters and they were fantastic. After a couple dozen more raw oysters we had to go for the trifecta and order a dozen fried. We were glad we did as they were excellent! This will be a regular stop for us on the way back from Ft. DeSoto.

We went here after reading the good reviews this place got and it didn't exactly live up to the reviews unfortunately. We got the grouper sandwich which was pretty good; the grouper seemed really fresh which was nice, and we got the grouper po boy which was VERY bland. The grouper itself was okay but the sandwich had barely any sauce on it and just some pieces of lettuce. I don't know, maybe that's just something that people don't order a lot there? Anyways, the atmosphere was nice and the waitress we had was friendly so although it wasn't a bad experience we wouldn't go back there again.

We had an amazing time at island grille! 50¢ oysters from 4-6 and they were huge... But we ate a dozen each! Our waiter Chris was hilarious and made our experience that much more enjoyable :) thinking about returning tonight!

  • Frank G.

SURPRISED Not overly crowded but once seated, it took waitress over 20 minutes to notice us. Had to place order with an individual who appeared to be a manager. Once dinner (grouper) arrived, it was tasteless and very bland - needed spices. Interestingly, there appeared to be a total lack of organization with the hostess and "manager" serving food, cleaning tables, etc. while the three servers performed other miscellaneous roles. Not an inexpensive dinner nor an impressive restaurant.

Went for lunch on Wednesday, shared the clams casino, crab cakes, and Ahi tuna appetizers. Which were more than enough for two. Lisa, our waitress, was so friendly! We sat on the back deck with a view of the water. Go and enjoy.

All around a very solid restaurant. When we first walked in for lunch on a Friday, we had the pleasure of having Ashley from Portland, Maine, who was an excellent server. We had peel-&-eat shrimp which was very good. Oysters were from Louisiana which were big & fresh but only ok taste-wise. The chopped salad with scallops added were excellent; the scallops cooked just right- still very moist and tasteful. One more thing, they were very accommodating in that I asked for a smaller portion of the spinach salad, which was very fresh, and I got it for half the price.

We stumbled upon this place for an impromptu date night-- glad we did!! 3 1/2 stars (not a 4 because of price and ambiance). Food: freshly caught and delicious! Can't beat that-- especially when its oysters. A little pricey for a water-view restaurant in a strip mall. But... We'd definitely return. Ambiance: We sat outside and watched a beautiful sunset. The inside was small and crammed (granted it was a Sat night). Friendly server!

okay the waitstaff, AWESOME! i can't remember the womans name but she had dark hair and tattoos. next the food. lobster bisque.. okay.. not the greatest but okay. a little thick for my taste. we also got a Cesar salad, everything was good but they sort of drowned the salad in dressing which makes it hard to eat.. i should have asked for dressing on the side (which i normally do) but forgot. no harm done. then the main course.... the Grouper special that is NOT on the menu... AMAZING!!!! wow! probably the best Grouper i've ever eaten.. the key is the delicious grill flavor that goes with everythign else. I believe there were garlic mashed potatos and a stuffing that included shirmp, crab and scallops... all i can say is WOW!!!!

  • Thomas D.

The food was good... Actually the good was really good. We went on a Sunday at 11 and the service was ... Well let's just say it wasn't as good as the food. I had a dozen raw oysters and they were hands down the best that I have had this year. We also had the fried grouper bites, the bleu cheese potato skins, a cup of the scallop and bacon soup, and the linguine and clams. All of it was really good except for the grouper bites which were a little over cooked. Now back to the service.. Not that our server wasn't nice and polite but she was overwhelmed.. I don't think they had enough staff on and we say in excess of 10 minutes before being greeted by our server. I am not going to beat a dead horse but the service left a lot to be desired. That said.. Go for the food!

Not a friendly place at all!! Servers seem upset that you're eating there. Not sure if server was just socially awkward or racist but I felt super uncomfortable. However, the food was delicious. I tried the blackened Alaskan cod and it was perfect!

Terrible food. Don't go here. Sandy oysters and the fattiest steak we've ever had. Yuck. Not sure why it's so busy? It was recommended by a local business so wondering if they get a cut to send naive patrons there....service was ok.

We headed here one night after a long day of fishing. The place was busy on a Saturday night, but we were still seated immediately. We started with the queso, guac, salsa and chips. It was good, nothing special. Then I had the blackened chicken Alfredo sans chicken. Our waiter offered me some other choices and I picked scallops. I was really happily surprised by the offer. Our waiter was attentive, but a number of others checked in on us and help with drinks and food delivery. My boyfriend loved his spicy pasta dish too. The portions were huge and the prices very reasonable. We definitely ate too much that night, but I still had enough leftover to feed my always hungry 16 year old boy a full meal!

If you're looking for a restaurant near Desoto Park, this one is a pretty good casual seafood restaurant. If you're not in the area, I wouldn't make a special trip here for the food, but it's a decent option if you're on your way or leaving the park. Ambience: it's a casual, clean, family restaurant located on the second story strip mall (I saw stair access and elevator access). The interior is bright (because it's surrounded by lots of windows) tastefully decorated with tropical colors. There isn't much of a bar/party scene, at least we didn't see a bar area (maybe we missed it); so if you're a family, that's probably what you're looking for; if you're single with no kids, then probably not. If you're looking for a restaurant with a view of the water, they have a partial view of the ocean but it's about 50-75 ft away and there's a chai link fence obscuring part of the view; it's not a restaurant on the beach. And you only have a good view if you're sitting on the patio; you wouldn't be able to see the water from inside. They have a covered patio, which is awesome so it kept the area shady, but it is small - maybe 6 tables total out there. Food: fresh and not pricey. I had a Cajun grilled mahi sandwich wrap and it was really good. My boyfriend ordered the same sandwich on a bun and didn't really care for his. There wasn't really much Cajun flavor to it; there was just a hint; so I'm thinking if you just get this sandwich grilled, it's going to be really plain. I got the black beans and rice for a side and they were really good. My boyfriend got the fries and they are not worth the calories - they are those battered/ textured fried instead of shoestring so they didn't have a good flavor to them. Service. Prompt and friendly. Our water glasses stayed full.

Have the lox and bagels for breakfast. It was good, commodity stuff. Nothing to write home about, but not terrible. Only real gripe the lox was a little bit fishy. Not incredibly fresh, but it was edible. The fussier customer might have sent it back though. All told, great place, second-story view of the water, pleasant waitstaff, clean, etc. Relaxing enough to warrant a return visit.

Always just come here for oyster happy hour. Sweet, plump oysters for only $6 a dozen! Usually order 6 dozen to share among 4 people. All 6 dozen are always delicious and shucked on the spot. You can have your seafood steamed or fried also if that's what you're into. Servers are always attentive and friendly here and almost every table there looks out to the water which is nice on the sunny days. Margaritas are pretty good here and are priced around $12, $5 during happy hour. They have food here for people that don't eat seafood also, like their chicken sandwhich, which was nothing new or exciting though. Oysters: 5/5 Food: 3/5 Service:5/5 Usually not busy to where you have to wait a long time to get a table. If it's a nice day, outdoor seating is an option.

WOW!!! I was visiting with family and decided to eat here due to good reviews. Food was exceptional! Ordered smoked fish spread for appetizer and grouper/mahi dinners with special sauces. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Would definitely go back when in the area. Highly recommend!!!

We have been here a number of times. Oysters are great, food can be also, or just ok. Had the Salmon Oscar a few days ago, and the sauce was awful... Heavy, thick and flavorless, over a very nice piece of salmon with fresh crabmeat that was smothered by the sauce. Had the scallops tonight which were terrific. But what peeves us is they didn't tell us that Thursday nights is 2 entrees for $25 plus an entree and a dessert and half price bottle of wine. That's deceptive. When we are seated I would expect that the staff would let us know the specials. That's why 3 stars. Buyer beware!

We loved this place! Our waiter Chase was friendly & made great suggestions! We sat inside & had their grilled shrimp app. with mozzarella over crispy eggplant on a bed of greens drizzled with balsamic! The shrimp were tasty, the eggplant light & crispy & with the cheese & balsamic vinegrette was the perfect combo together! Our drinks were good & dinner even better! I had the filet mignon with a portobello mushroom stuffed with crabmeat & a skewer of scallops with a loaded potato! OMG, the scallops were seared perfectly, yet juicy inside, the crabmeat stuffed mushroom was awesome, the steak was good, but I would hv like it with a little more seasoning, & who can ruin a loaded potato? Everything was delicious & most of all sooo fresh! My hubby had the skirt steak with onions, edamame salad, scallops & lastly this fantastic ice cream atop of warm chocolate pecan pie with just enough syrup- OMG, is all I can say! We're definitely going back the next time we go to St. Petersberg beach! So worth the trip & every red cent! Eat & enjoy, we did!

Stopped here before hitting a nearby beach and I was quite pleased. Our server, Emma was very pleasant and prompt. We decided to sit outside which was perfect. We had a nice shaded water view which I was not expecting so that was a big plus. Things we ordered included the crab cakes, raw clams, shrimp po' boy, grilled grouper sandwich and to wash it all down we had a mojito and pina colada. Everything was very tasty, but I must say, I really liked the shrimp po' boy. Emma stopped by several times to make sure we had everything we needed. This really is a cute place and the friendly staff does make a difference. I have been driving right by this place for years and didn't even know it was there. It's kind of hiding in the corner of a strip mall and the place is located on the second floor, so I never noticed it. Thanks Yelp for once again helping me find such a gem!

We stopped here after a day at fort Desoto beach. The staff is very friendly. This place is a classic local dive. my wife and I split a grouper sandwich and my daughter had the shrimp tacos. Everything was super fresh. I did think our sandwich was a but pricey at 10.99 considering the size. The fries are batter fries - a nice touch. The waiter said some people have had trouble with map directions. Their address, 1110 bayway a,risky puts you on the wrong side of the building. The building sits on the corner of 12th street and the bayway. Turn on 12th and turn into the second parking lot on the left. The restaurant will be above you on the second floor. There is an elevator for those that can't use the steps.

Excellent...excellent food! We stopped by Island Grilled for lunch after hitting Fort DeSoto in the morning. We picked it because it was the only restaurant that seemed open but man...what a nice surprise! We started off with the grouper fritters. I thought they were similar to the conch fritters but they asked us whether we wanted them grilled, blackened, or deep fried. We opted for blackened. They give a nice portion of grouper...no small pieces here...with a pepper seafood spicy mix. Very good. As my meal, I ordered the chopped salad with grouper. Huge salad portion with a really decent size of grouper. My fiancee ordered the fish tacos which also had tons of flavor. I will definately go back

This years visit to I.G was not memorable. Huge delay in food being served on a Sunday night! Raw oysters were good, fresh, a little small. The no further food for almost an hour. Ordered a special grouper, "stuffed"...it arrived with "stuffing" slabbed on the top, no lemon-garlic sauce. Grilled too tough underneath. They forgot my soup! My friends seafood diavolo pleased her, but I tasted it and it was adequate, lots of pasta, not much shellfish... So, sadly, even though they came and asked about the meal, and comped mine, can't give them but a bare two stars! Bare. Maybe next year. (also noisy, lots of drink-influenced loudness, even in smaller room on side)

The food was GREAT from the sashimi oysters to the Tuscany cedar plank salmon to the blackberry cobbler. Every recipe was packed with so much flavor and nothing was held back. Would recommend to anybody with the variety of choices. The staff was also very friendly and quick.

First off, i'll state we went to this location thanks to the Groupon offer. With that being said, food was okay. It didn't leave me in awe or wanting more. We had the Oyesters for an appetizer and I had the Honey Almond Salmon special. I'll only speak on my meal. It was okay. Too many almonds and not enough flavor to it. I get what they were going for but I feel it could have been executed better. The atmosphere had a 'local hangout' vibe. (it was very small, btw) It wasn't a tourist-y spot. We noticed a lot of people who knew each other and smiles were all around. The view outside was spectacular. We went around sunset time and it was gorgeous! I would probably go again for the view but the food was 3/5 stars. Service: It was okay, nothing to rave about.

The best lobster bisque I have eaten period! I had 1 dozen raw oysters that were fresh, cold and scrumptious. My daughter had the best scallops she has tasted. They were cut with a fork tender and fresh. Lisa was friendly, engaging and recommended all of the right things.

My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times. We have never been disappointed. This time we had dinner with 3 of our friends. This particular evening it was "Fish Taco" night. The price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. I got the Cedar Plank Salmon dinner and asked for extra capers. Wow, this place aimed to please. All of our meals were served hot and were excellently prepared. We ordered 2 Key Lime pieces of pie. Well each order came with 3 squares (3 inch X 3 inch). It was more than we all could eat. It was also very good. We got there around 1700 hours in time for happy hour and beat most of the crowds. One of the reasons I'm not giving 5 stars is we had made reservations and put us in the bar area. Just above our heads was a TV (volume was off but it was still on). It was distracting because the TV screen was constantly changing with what was playing. Our 3 friends found it very distracting. We all had gone out for the evening to enjoy dinner and each others company. There was a TV at both ends of the bar room. Our server was great. The restroom and restaurant were clean. We'll be back again but we'll ask not to sit in the bar again.

I've been here at least 3 times. The atmosphere is quite nice, the dining area is spacious and naturally lit. A beautiful water view is available from the deck. On my first visit I had the Po Boy and really enjoyed it. On subsequent visits I was less than impressed. I'm fairly confident in saying that breakfast is not their strong point. The majority of my breakfast had obviously been microwaved. This being said, a $30 bill for two basic breakfast items and a coffee was a little steep for not-so-fresh food. Regardless, I haven't ruled them out for lunch, but I'd recommend finding somewhere else to eat breakfast.

A friendly watering hole for low-key but well-heeled snowbirds. Busy. As per the below, the specials are DEALS. Just ordering off the menu (I had a starter as an entree) w/ one drink, each, and tip = $70. So spendy. Excellent mussels in diabolo. Our server, Lisa, was a hoot and a half (but very good). TVs on college bowl games -- that was fun. If we lived here, we'd be regulars I'm sure.

Great service, delicious and laid back. I loved watching the staff be so nice to the customers.

A Gem in St. Pete! I absolutely adore this restaurant. My husband and I were at a different restaurant and mentioned we wanted, nay, NEEDED, oysters. Our server told us about Island Grille. So the next day, we went to this nondescript strip mall and found the Island Grille tucked in a corner upstairs. We creeped on in, not knowing what to expect. Um, the cutest place ever! Great ambiance, good decor, full bar, outside seating, TVs and great specials. We ordered 2 dozen oysters and since it was between 4-6, they were 50 cents each! Unheard of! We were so excited! We thought 'at this price, they will probably only be ok'. We were so wrong. They were some of the best oysters I've ever eaten. We were told that they brought them in from Louisiana. (Maybe I should be going to Louisiana on my next vacation....). The drink specials at Happy Hour were a nice surprise too. Buy one, get on free well drinks or $1 off draft beers. We also had the calamari, which had a balsamic dressing on it. Soooo good. Another day my husband ordered a shrimp pasta and I got the crab cakes and sweet potato tater tots (say what?!) and everything was delicious. We agreed that it was seriously one of the best meals we've ever had. Don't take that statement lightly, my friends. my husband and I have eaten a LOT of meals together. The service was only ok. Everyone was super friendly, they just weren't spot on with their knowledge of the beers on tap and the prices of things. Go to the Island Grille!!!!

Staff here were great and if the food had any shortcomings then the staff make up for it. Honestly the food was really good. Good thing for yelp too... I would have never found this place on the way back from Fort Desoto. Recommendations - Fish taco, blacken grouper, chocolate cake (with ice cream), chop salad was awesome!

I find the choices in TV and the beaches limited for good, fresh food, with a decent atmosphere (most are touristy, fried everything or the snowbird crowd). Island Grill did not disappoint. Atmosphere was nice, and service very good. I had raw oysters which is one of the reasons I went, and was very pleased. My guests had fried shrimp which seemed fresh and (if you want) has a "bang bang" type sauce, a la Bonefish Grill. We also had lobster bisque and fish spread, which were really good. My grouper fillet for dinner was spectacular. Prices were quite fair. I will happily return and bypass the other disappointing places nearby.

Great place! We spent Father's Day here- all 11 of us had a good time hanging out. Yes, true it was 50 cents oysters. I was amazed how fresh the oysters were, all 5 dozen! I also had a dozen clams- superlative delicious! And then the rest of food arrived up..Groupers, Fritters, Burgers, Lobster Bisque and Blacked Rib Eye Steak ...All were tasty! And then a first timer for me, Fried Green beans.. Oh yea, we will come back! Ms Cleopatra, was our hostess, I talked to her before I had left. I told them don't change anything and eventually crowd will come. Place was clean, beer was cold and food was most excellent! FYI I did not see any bugs at this place! Otherwise I'd share that info to my fellow Yelper.

WOW! I came here with a couple friends for the happy hour oysters. They were extremely fresh! We had them raw and fried. The fried was so savory and not just batter. Apparently on Tuesdays it's happy hour price all day! Definitely coming back on a Tuesday!

Pretty good food. Pretty decent portions, enough to finish and not have copious amounts of leftovers like other joints. One compliant is that they unexpectedly added 20% gratuity to our table of 4 adults and 2 kids. The menu had no mention of that and our service was such that it didn't deserve 20%.

Have you ever bought a $10.00 bottle of wine that surprised you because it was as good as a $45 bottle? That's what this place its like. Looks like a non descript local dive from the outside (assuming your Google maps doesn't lead you to the community pool across the street like ours did). But the views are all in the back and service and food was top notch. Think sports bar but 2 notches better that is capable of pleasing more travelingclientele as well as locals. The waitress was great ...

Had dinner here with my girlfriend and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The people we very friendly, super attentive. I had the Grouper Tuscany, and it was fabulous, fresh and not too heavy. She had Scallops Tuscany with Alfredo Pasta on the side. She said both were excellent. Portions are good size, but not huge. Atmosphere was nice, family friendly, and you can wear anything there.

Made a reservation and requested a table to view the water. When we arrived with our 2 kids, we were shown to the table in the corner. There was a nice table outside but hostess said it was for someone else. Ok whatever, glad we had that reservation. Oysters were FANTASTIC! Kids meals were prompt and perfectly portioned. I ordered the grouper po boy basket but got a huge bowl with fried grouper and French fries...and that's it. No garnish no lemon no sauce of any kind or the coleslaw it was supposed to come with. It looked really unappetizing. Took 3 different servers blowing by us before anyone stopped to help out. Everyone was really nice but not really genuine. Overall just ok. Not sure if I would go out of my way for this one again. Maybe if we go without the kids we can sit facing the water.

first of all, we have a 2 year old son so we needed a low table or a booster seat. we were sat at a pub table outside, so our son had to stand on the stool the whole time to eat. we asked for a booster seat and were never brought one. we asked for a low table and were told that none were available. there were at least 6 empty tables when we arrived. after we sat, we had to ask for menus..... our server was either stoned or drunk, or at least acted like it. we started out with raw oysters and a pitcher of beer. not bad, no prep involved. not hard to get right. my wife had the island chicken. it was very good. I had the fried mahi and our son had the chicken tenders. big portions. but both my fried fish and his chicken were WAY overcooked. it was hot outside and my son would not eat the dry chicken so we decided to get our check and some boxes and leave. for being a waterfront seafood restaurant, we were very disappointed. not bad if you want raw oysters and beer but no cook has to touch those items. may give them another chance but not good for the price.

Third and last visit to Island Grille tonight. Food was decent but management is poor. There are too many food options in this area and I'll vote with my dollars at one of the many other options. This place got the last dollar they will ever see from me. My wife and I went tonight to use a Groupon that expires in a week. When it came time to pay the bill we were told we could not use it for what we ordered. Server got the manager and that's where things went south. The manager, Dave, needs some lessons in customer service. His demeanor and rapport is callous at best and borders on outride rudeness. I'm a reasonable person and was seeing red by the time he explained why we couldn't use the Groupon in such a way that basically said you're an idiot and I can show you why. Then he tried to come back and have us read the fine print from Groupon. Really! This place obviously is not interested in repeat customers. They won't have to worry about that from me! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!

After spending time In New Orleans last spring, I was really wanting to find a good local place, close to home, for raw oysters...my son told me that he had heard about Island Grill, so we decided to check it out...their oysters were impeccable and dee-lish! I've tried a couple of other dishes but the go-to for me is always their oysters. Mussels are also tasty and cooked two ways...marinara and with white wine and garlic. Love sitting out on the porch watching the sunset over the Gulf...doesn't get any better than that.

I bought a groupon voucher for my hubby for his birthday for this restaurant. Based on the reviews and the fact that it was on the beach, I was really excited for this experience! I did buy the $40 voucher for 4, because they already sold out of the voucher for 2, but I called ahead of time to see if it was ok to use and they said they are strict about this so I had to change our romantic dinner to a dinner with my parents and our 2 little ones...that was fine. Glad we didn't just go there only to be disappointed. The area of Tierra Verde is very beautiful and the restaurant is medium-sized but very nice. We were greeted by a very friendly host and seated immediately as we made reservations. I really wish we had a different wait staff, but unfortunately our wait staff was terrible! We asked if the drinks were 2 for 1, he looked at his watch and said he can give it to us. So we ordered 2 glasses of wine and my hubby ordered a beer (not a special) and a few minutes later, he came back saying he didn't realize the time and he couldn't give us the deal and they ran out of the beer. My hubby didn't order another beer as he thought it wasn't meant to be. I on the other hand ordered a sangria (when we ordered our meals) BUT he must have forgotten, because I never got it!! Now I was convinced it wasn't meant to be! So we ordered our apps which was a dozen raw oysters for my hubby and the queso dip. My hubby loves oysters and said they were only "OK" and he would not eat it again, but the queso dip was yummy! We also had fish tacos, my hubby loved them, I had the po' boy sandwich which was very good (but would have been great with a little more sauce) and my parents had prime rib, they said it was ok. At the end, we still got charged for our drinks, which the waiter changed. So overall the food was ok and the waiter was terrible! I really wanted to like this restaurant, but with this experience we would not come back and not recommend it.

We had both raw and fried oysters which were excellent. Fish tacos were good with nicely cooked mahi. Would have liked more interesting sauce on the tacos but overall the service, food and atmosphere were excellent.

This is one of the best spots in South Pinellas. A true "locals" place, with an extensive menu and great food. The daily specials are an exceptional value. Plus, the staff is super-friendly and the service is top-notch. Grab a drink and a seat on the patio and you're immediately on vacation.

It may have been the excellent bar staff, the quality of the food or the bang you get for your buck if you look at the specials - all or any it's well worth looking for the red palm tree

We live on Tierra Verde and are regulars at the Island Grille. We love this place not only for all of the reasons you've read about in the other reviews, but also because it has become the local hangout on Tierra Verde. We've gotten to know the owners and staff, and they're a fun group. We've also gotten to meet a lot of our neighbors here. So we sort of think of it as the "Island Cheers." But just one other comment I would add to what others have written, and that is that Colleen's seafood specials are to die for. We recently ventured off the "island" to meet some friends at the Salt Rock Grille, and all 3 of us from Tierra Verde later agreed that their seafood doesn't even compare to Colleen's. I'm sure as with most restaurants one can find some imperfections here and there. But this lady clearly knows what she's doing, and her bubbly personality and extensive restaurant management expertise are evident throughout the entire staff, and in every aspect of the operation. Suffice it to say, we highly recommend this restaurant for its quality of food, friendly service, and reasonable prices.

While visiting the area on a family vacation we stopped at the island grille for happy hour. We had an all around amazing experience. The staff was super friendly and attentive (Wes), and the outdoor patio in the back was relaxing and beautiful. We had .50 cent oysters (yes, only .50 cents...) and chicken wings. Both were delicious. Can't wait to head back there on our next trip!

Food was awesome ! We loved the conch fritters. We ate almost all the food and then discovered a roach leg. As we walked out, we saw the exterminators truck... Ewwwwwwww. I paid and left a nice tip ( never told them because really, what's the point) I really hope I don't get sick.

Good food and atmosphere but definitely a local hang out... Hard to tell if they're open (it's on the second floor of a plaza). The staff is friendly but they are lacking role clarity and leadership.

Great specials for happy hour! Would not have expected such a great space tucked away in the corner of a two-story strip mall, but the food, service, and environment was excellent. Can't wait to go back!
